Here’s one of the latest lucky contestants: Social Media Today, a Web venture with an active presence on Facebook, was posting URLs twice a day, until one day they discovered they’d run afoul of the site’s rules and had their ability to post links blocked.
Soon the iPhone, and presumably the iPad, will carry advertising embedded in their applications. For ABC fans it sounds like a nightmare, and it’s great news for the ABC itself, since its app will remain ad-free. But in fact it’s great news all round: it means high-quality commercial publishing may yet live, not die under the benign, democratic, jackboot of Google.
